Is Big Data Dead?

buildingintelligence2_smallerAccording to recent articles I have read, the answer is a resounding “yes.” However, I tend to take the approach that Jon Morris mentions in an article he posted on inc. titled How to Gather Smart (Not Big) Data. Data is data no matter the size or complexity. It is what you do with it that can set you apart from your competition.

Social Engineering and the Cyber Black Market

buildingintelligence2_smallerIn movies, you see some guy sitting at his computer banging away at the keys and creating sophisticated algorithms that can go around advanced cybersecurity measures or can crack strong passwords or anything else that looks really cool for the camera. The not-as-glamorous reality is that hackers can shop for hacking tools online. Or better yet, they can exploit social engineering and get access to your system directly from you.

Event Recap: Realcomm Las Vegas 2014

rc-ib-14-photo-004It has been a little over one month since I returned from the Realcomm Las Vegas 2014 conference with some assumptions confirmed. I was thoroughly impressed with the event schedule, session presenters and participants. From my perspective, the event generated a tremendous amount of valuable information for its stakeholder community. I even had the honor of meeting AJ Jolivette, CTO and president of Terosaur, Inc., who demonstrated how their drone technology may play a role in commercial real estate in the near future.

“Mom & Dad… I want to be a hacker when I grow up!”

buildingintelligence2_smallerWhat if your child said he or she wanted to be a hacker when they grow up? What would you do? I would ask them which kind. Yes, you read that correctly: which kind. If they said a white hat hacker, I would not only say “yes,” but I would also try and help them. If you don’t know what a white hat hacker is, they are the good guys. In today’s society, at least to me, white hat hackers are equivalent of the fireman, solider, policeman that we wanted to grow up to be.

Can Your Garage Be Classified As Critical Infrastructure?
